A national Vocational Skills Competition for Rural Revitalization will be held in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, from Sept 26 to 28. According to the latest news, Ma Xinru, a student majoring in Food Processing Technology (Food Safety and Testing) at Food and Drug College of Shanghai Overseas Chinese Vocational and Technical University, won the National gold medal of the student group in the Western Pastry Chef project of the National Rural Vitalization Vocational Skills Competition on September 28. College of Food and Pharmacy, Qiaoqiao University of China started to recruit students in 2016, and was approved by Shanghai Education Commission in 2019 as a construction project of high level major in intermediate and higher vocational education. In the past five years, the Food and Drug College of Shanghai Overseas Chinese Vocational and Technical University has cooperated with Shanghai Trade School and achieved fruitful results in the training. On Sept 26, 2021, the National Vocational Skills Competition for Rural Revitalization, co-hosted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the National Rural Revitalization Administration and the People's government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, kicked off in Urumqi, Xinjiang. A total of 640 agricultural registered contestants from all provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government) and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps participated in the competition. There are 11 competitions which are closely related to practical skills in rural areas, such as masonry worker, agricultural machinery repairman and electrician. During the period, a series of activities such as Skills China Trip 2021 -- into Xinjiang skills exhibition and exchange, theme promotion of the 46th World Skills Competition, report on advanced deeds of Skills to become talents and skills to serve the Country, and business exchange of vocational skills competition were also held. Shanghai Overseas Chinese Vocational and Technical University adheres to the socialist school-running direction with Chinese characteristics, carries out the fundamental task of cultivating talents by virtue, educating talents for the country and educating talents for the Party, actively explores the comprehensive reform of educating talents for three aspects, persists in serving the national and regional economy and society as the standard of improving the school-running level, and regards training qualified talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, the United States and Labor as the central task of school-running. The College of Food and Drug offers undergraduate major of Food quality and safety, and four higher vocational majors and directions of food intelligent Processing Technology, food inspection and testing technology, food quality and safety, and biopharmaceutical technology. Food specialty group and biopharmaceutical specialty are driven by two Shanghai municipal reform pilot specialties, which is the most comprehensive food and drug specialty system among similar universities in Shanghai. The comprehensive training center of the college covers an area of about 3,000 square meters, with a food inspector skill appraisal test center approved by Shanghai Vocational Skill Appraisal Center. It has become one of the few universities in China with food inspection skill appraisal. It has training and teaching facilities including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry instrument, atomic absorption photometer, atomic fluorescence spectrometer, etc. At present, there are 12 large laboratories for teaching and a number of auxiliary experimental preparation rooms. At present, there are 39 teachers in this major, including 5 professors, 4 associate professors, 1 senior technician, 8 doctors. The college has established good school-enterprise cooperative relations or signed school-enterprise cooperation agreements with nearly 30 enterprises, including Pini Testing Group Shanghai Co., LTD., Ingle Testing & Certification Group, Shanghai Kerry Food Industry Co., LTD., Shanghai Nanqiao Food, Shanghai Jinshan Bio-Pharmaceutical Park, Shanghai Qingzai Pharmaceutical Co., LTD.
