On August 8, the first batch of international students was welcomed to Shanghai Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical University (hereafter referred to as Zhongqiao University). Students from Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (hereafter referred to as DHBW) came to participate in the Summer International Exchange Camp program sponsored by the School of International Education of Zhongqiao University to experience the campus life in China. The internationalization of Zhongqiao University continues to accelerate, and the exchange of international students has kicked off the vigorous international development of the school in the second half of 2023, and further promoted the in-depth cooperation between China and Germany in vocational education.
Huo Jiazhen, President of the Zhongqiao University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Yan Hui, Dean of the School of International Education, and representatives of teachers and students of the Zhongqiao University attended the opening ceremony which was presided over by Lu Hong of the School of International Education.
President Huo extended a warm welcome to the guests who came from afar. He also introduced the relevant situation of the school in detail, such as campus hardware, characteristic cultural activities, beautiful campus environment, and practical training venues with vocational education characteristics and so on. This short-term program not only includes a number of famous scenic spots to experience the diverse customs of Shanghai, but also a variety of cultural experience activities and courses. Students can learn about traditional Chinese culture and feel the breadth and depth of Chinese culture. He hopes that German teachers and students can enjoy this cultural exchange trip, can better understand China, know China, feel the charm of China. He sincerely hopes that this summer camp will deepen bilateral exchanges and cooperation, provide a broader platform for the learning and exchanges between two countries’ teachers and students, and play a role in actively promoting cultural exchanges between China and Germany.
Yan Hui, dean of the School of International Education, said that this summer camp specially opened a series of cultural experience + scientific and technological innovation activities such as UAV experience, Chinese food, dragon boat training, traditional Chinese massage, local culture exploration, tourism geography, Chinese history lectures, visits to local enterprises - Jiufeng Farm, Jinfeng Wine Industry. It is hoped that the campers will have a deeper experience of Chinese culture, learn more about China and Chinese education, become a bridge of friendship between China and Germany, and contribute to the cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Zhongqiao University invited Professor Zhao Weidong from the School of Foreign Languages of Tongji University to give the international students the first lesson of camp Opening. He said that China is an ancient civilization with a long history and splendid culture, a developing country with rapid economic growth, and a country that loves peace, freedom and justice. He warmly welcomes international students to come to China for exchange and study. Shanghai, as an international metropolis, has a profound historical and cultural heritage. There is also a modern high-tech industry. He hopes students can immerse themselves in the taste of Shanghai's history and modern prosperity.
The School of Information Engineering gave German students a talk on UAVs, one of the items of the ongoing summer camp activities. Professional teachers and the president of the UAV community gave theoretical explanations and experience of UAV flying practice to German students, so that German teachers and students could understand the relevant knowledge and operational skills of UAV, enhance the awareness of scientific and technological innovation and practical ability, and enhance their understanding and recognition of the development and change of science and technology in the new era of China.
In the School of Food and Drug, German students learned how to make Chinese dumplings. With the help from Chinese teachers, German students rolled dumpling skins and filled them. In a cheerful atmosphere, everyone started together, the wishes for the summer camp and the hope of life all wrapped into a small dumpling. Tasting the dumplings made by his own hands, the German student said that the experience of making dumplings not only allowed him to better understand the traditional Chinese food, but also let him experience the beauty of China and the beauty of culture.
This summer camp is an endeavor of School of International Education to innovate in the field of overseas students' education in China. To further enhance its international visibility, the School has actively broadened cooperation channels and carefully designed summer camp programs. Zhongqiao University will take the initiative to adapt to the trend of internationalization of higher education, accumulate experience in international education, and make contributions to telling good Chinese stories and spreading the voice of China.
