Shanghai Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical College(also Shanghai Zhongqiao College) was founded in 1993 and was admitted to the national unified enrollment plan by the Ministry of Education in 2002. As a non-profit private undergraduate college, it is one of the few pilot colleges for vocational education at the national undergraduate level in Shanghai. The name of the college(Shanghai Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical College(also Shanghai Zhongqiao College) ) which was used from 1993 to May 2020 was changed to Shanghai Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical University (also Zhongqiao University) in June 2020 after it got the approval of the Ministry of Education and was upgraded to an institution that can grant a bachelor’s degree in December 2019.  With a campus of 542.4 acres, the environment is pleasant for over 10,000 students currently studying here. The development goal of the university is to establish a top university for modern vocational education well-known both domestically and abroad with “distinct professional characteristics and modern style of operation.” With its motto of “using sciences and educations to prosper the enterprise, serving the country with the industry,” Zeta Group, one of the top 500 manufacturing enterprises in China, has provided solid support for the university's development.

With the direction of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the university implements the fundamental task of cultivating talents with a high moral standard for the country and the Communist party. Therefore, it actively explores the comprehensive reform of education with three aspects and insists on serving the national and regional economy and society as the standard for improving the university's operation. The central task for the university is to cultivate qualified talents with comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical education, art and labor skills. The university upholds the spirit of the motto of “morality, diligence, and knowledgeable,” which adheres to the development idea of “innovation, entrepreneurship, and value creation” in pursuit of excellence in the development of modern vocational education. In this way, the development of modern vocational education can be achieved by deepening educational cooperation, promoting the co-construction and sharing of educational resources, and encouraging professional development, talent training, cultural exchanges, and international and college-level cooperation.

With nine secondary colleges, thirty-five majors (directions) for national enrollment, and ten undergraduate majors, the university has explored to form a four-in-one educational model of “university, enterprise, industry, and government.” Meanwhile, it adheres to the corporate and social employment standards, coordinates talent training programs with the wisdom of multiple parties, and creates professional characteristics. It has developed a comprehensive model with specialized majors such as catering, elderly care, securities and futures, branded majors including advertisement design and production and applied automobile technology, and top majors such as logistics management. Currently, it maintains good relationships with 245 companies with 153 professional training based in and outside the campus. Moreover, the university fully promotes its “14th Five-Year” development strategy by integrating resources, deepening cooperation, and further promoting education and teaching reforms and the development of connotative characteristics. With the help of Shanghai Jiaotong University, East China University of Science and Technology, Fudan University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, East China Normal University, Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai University of Engineering and Technology and other high-quality educational resources of many universities, the university is dedicated to serving students and surrounding community groups to cultivate professional skills and upgrade academic qualifications. In recent years, the university has maintained good cooperation with many universities in different countries and regions, such as the US, the UK, Japan, Spain, and the Taiwan region. In May of 2023，Zhongqiao University was officially accredited by ACQUIN(The German Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute). Authorized by the German Accreditation Council, ACQUIN is an international organization dedicated to assessing the quality of higher education. By continuously expanding overseas exchanges and cooperation, the university’s internationalization ability and global vision are greatly enhanced. Cultivating technical and skilled talents with an international perspective. So far, the university has sent more than 530 students to short-term and long-term exchange programs, which has built a platform for students to receive overseas education.

Under the guiding principle of “the learning process is compatible with the cultivation of comprehensive quality,” it comprehensively enhances students’ professional skills and employment competitiveness. Moreover, the university also incorporates innovation and entrepreneurship education into the curriculum, which stimulates innovative thinking in an entrepreneurial atmosphere. Besides, the university’s brand is established by creating value regarding the university’s culture, financial assistance to poor students, and voluntary services. In recent years, many staff have won honors such as “the Shanghai Education Award.” Meanwhile, students have participated in various competitions in China, such as the National Vocational College Skills Competition, the National “Challenge Cup” Vocational College Innovation and Efficiency Competition, and the Shanghai “Starlight Project” Skills Competition, with good results repeatedly achieved. As one of the 100 employment monitoring sites of the Ministry of Education, the university has completed the work of the Employment Monitoring Department with great success. Furthermore, the employment rate of the university’s graduates has sustained above 98% for more than ten consecutive years. With the principle that education can rejuvenate the nation, the university is dedicated to integrating production into education by cooperating with organizations such as the Modern Service Industry Federations and Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce, chambers of commerce, and leading enterprises such as Tencent, Meituan, Huawei, and Laiyifen. With the helping hand of local listed companies and resources from all directions, the university has carried out multi-dimensional integration of production and education and university-enterprise cooperation to empower the cultivation of high-quality technical and professional talents. So far, the university has signed strategic cooperation agreements with 13 leading companies, including Baowu Group, Shanghai Construction Engineering Fifth Construction, Lenovo, Ctrip, and iFlytek. At the same time, it has established strategic connection with associations and chambers of commerce, including the Modern Service Industry Federation and Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce. In 2019, it was honored as “Shanghai May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee.” In 2020, the university was nominated for several titles, including Excellent Institute, the “University Ruled by Law” and “the Excellent Trade Union for the Education System” in Shanghai. Last but not the least, in 2021, it was honored the “May 1st Labor Award” in Shanghai. In 2022, it was selected as one of the first batch of Shanghai Innovation and Entrepreneurship Teaching Practice Bases, and in 2023, the university was approved as one of the new technician colleges in Shanghai, Shanghai Municipal Federation of Industry and Education, Master of Chinese arts and crafts Inheritance and Innovation Base Universities, and as one of the 8 universities in Shanghai, Zhongqiao was selected by the Ministry of Education as one of the first batch of National Healthy School Construction Unit.

GRADUATION & EMPLOYMENT

Employment is one of the most important projects for the university. In recent years, the university has actively carried out education and teaching reforms to improve the quality of training, including implementing a new model of “university-enterprise cooperation,” “apprenticeship teaching,” and “joint training.” Meanwhile, it also hosts large-scale campus recruitment fairs and corporate presentations every year to provide graduates with sufficient employment information and job positions. Besides, the university also provides students with personalized guidance in career consultation and employment services. Moreover, vocational training camps also stimulate students’ subjective initiative, vocational skills, and professional qualities, which are well received by employers. As a result, in recent years, the employment rate of the university’s graduates has reached an average of over 98%, which is higher than the Shanghai average. INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATION

The university conducts international exchanges and cooperation with about ten top overseas universities in different countries, such as the UK, Japan, Spain, and the US. Every year, nearly a hundred students go abroad for further studies or short-term exchange programs. For example, the university cooperates with the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Spain. Meanwhile, it also conducts summer school and exchange programs with the University of South Wales and Teesside University in the UK. Similarly, it cooperates with the Kyoto University of Information Technology and West Japan Junior College to conduct short-term academic visits and exchange programs.

THE UNIVERSITY’S CULTURE

The university focuses on cultivating students’ diversified personalities. By providing platforms for education regarding value, culture and practice, students are encouraged to show their youthful demeanour. More than 50 unique student clubs have formed a cultural landscape on campus. For example, the Youth League Committee of the school was awarded the Shanghai May 4th Youth League Committee. Meanwhile, the Student Union has been nominated the Excellent Student Organization of the Shanghai Federation of Students. Besides, the Information Science and Technology Student Association won the second prize in the national “Challenge Cup” competition for vocational colleges. All these awards have earned the university’s nomination of the first batch of science and technology innovation associations in Shanghai. In terms of extracurricular clubs, the Dragon Dance Club was honored as the Outstanding Association of Shanghai University Students. The university holds many themed events, including the annual sports meetings, fresher’s week, culture and art festival, social practice festivals, innovation and entrepreneurship festivals, and professional style festivals, which strives to create a university cultural life with Chinese characteristics.
