The Director of English Language Center of Curtin University Visits SHZQU to Enhance International Collaboration and Language Education

From November 12 to 13, 2024, Michele Doray, Director of Curtin University’s English Language Centre, visited Shanghai Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical University (SHZQU). During her visit, she delivered a series of enriching activities, including a model English class, a teacher training workshop, a lecture on English learning, and a student meet-and-greet.


This exchange not only optimized SHZQU’s international education programs but also broadened students’ global perspectives, inspiring enthusiasm for overseas study and life. Additionally, the visit laid a solid foundation for closer collaboration between SHZQU and Curtin University, contributing positively to the university’s English education and the holistic development of its students.


Model Class



On the first day, Michele Doray conducted an English writing demonstration class for students in SHZQU’s joint training program. Drawing on her 30+ years of teaching experience, she employed interactive discussions to engage students. Using everyday examples, she provided an engaging and practical explanation of English writing structures and techniques. During the session, students actively participated in group presentations, sharing their insights and ideas on the class topics.



Workshop


The teacher training workshop was another highlight of the first day. Faculty members from SHZQU’s joint training foreign language program exchanged teaching methods with Michele Doray through mock lessons and instructional discussions. This collaboration allowed both sides to learn from each other, enhancing teaching quality and fostering innovative approaches.



SHZQU teachers gained practical skills in utilizing multimedia teaching tools and designing creative, interactive lessons aligned with international education standards. The workshop also provided deeper insights into differentiated instruction, enabling educators to better cater to the diverse learning needs of their students.



Academic Lecture



On the second day, Michele Doray delivered an academic lecture introducing Curtin University’s programs, campus facilities, and global learning resources. The session offered SHZQU students valuable insights into English language learning and the realities of studying abroad, sparking interest in international programs.



To create an engaging atmosphere, Michele incorporated interactive elements such as tongue twisters, encouraging students to practice English communication with confidence.


Student Meet-and-Greet



Following the lecture, Michele Doray hosted a meet-and-greet with students preparing for overseas studies. She shared practical tips on adapting to life abroad, academic strategies, and the importance of utilizing psychological support resources, helping students build confidence and prepare comprehensively for their future journeys.



Strengthening Cooperation



During her visit, Michele Doray engaged in discussions with SHZQU representatives on topics such as talent cultivation, implementation of the English Language Bridging (ELB) program, existing joint degree programs, faculty training initiatives, and plans for short-term exchange programs in the coming year. Both parties expressed a strong commitment to strengthening international collaboration and envisioned mutually beneficial projects to expand educational opportunities.


SHZQU remains committed to deepening its partnership with Curtin University, aiming to cultivate globally minded talent and foster innovation in education.
