Recently, in order to accurately meet the needs of the synthetic biology industry and broaden students' horizons, teachers Wu Xianghuan, counselors Shen Yongnan, and Zhao Yanqin from the School of Food and Pharmacy at Shanghai Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical University led students majoring in synthetic biology from the 24th cohort to Zhangjiang Science Hall to participate in the opening event of the 2025 Shanghai International Biomedical Industry Week (IBIWS). A group of teachers and students gathered together with top scientists and entrepreneurs from around the world to immerse themselves in the innovative pulse of connecting the global empowerment industry.

This Industry Week is guided by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and adopts the 1+1+15+N model, gathering 1 opening event, 1 achievement exhibition, 15 special forums, and N series of activities throughout the year. At the opening ceremony, Chen Kaixian, an academician of the CAS Member, Michael Houghton, a Nobel Prize winner and other guests made keynote speeches around the theme of AI+biological manufacturing, cell therapy 2.0 and other topics.

The metabolic pathway in the textbook has turned into green colonies under a fluorescence microscope today, which is so shocking! Exclaimed Li, a student from Class 1 of Grade 24 Synthetic Biology, after visiting. Student Huang Yilin said, The case study of 'synthetic biology method for preparing anti-cancer drugs' presented at the opening ceremony allowed me to truly see how gene editing and cell factory technology learned in class can be applied to the industry, and strengthened my determination to deeply cultivate my profession. The students all expressed that this trip to Zhangjiang allowed them to intuitively feel the transition of China's biopharmaceutical industry from' following 'to' leading ', and also clarified their professional direction.

Next, the college will rely on the resources of the Industry Week to embed the List of Synthetic Biology Job Abilities into the two core courses of Molecular Biology and Biopharmaceutical Technology. Experts will be invited to conduct Micro Professional workshops on campus, and excellent students will be selected to practice in CDMO enterprises in Zhangjiang during the summer vacation. This will truly achieve a seamless connection between teaching content and industry demand, and provide more high-quality synthetic biology skilled talents who understand technology and are good at practice to create a world-class biopharmaceutical industry cluster in Shanghai.
