The author combines years of curatorial experience and the new book Encountering Gentlemen: A Record of Maritime Art and Culture to select specific cases to vividly depict the creation, life, and daily interactions of Shanghai artists, guiding everyone on how to understand and judge an artwork. Art history and theory are easily integrated into it, showcasing the circle of friends they interact with, the maritime charm, artistic forms, and social customs they see. The sea art and cultural circles, where emotions flow like gifts and enthusiasm comes like responses, are full of vivid and emotional images.
