【Research Training】Three teachers from the College English Teaching and Research Section attended Advanced Training on Blended Teaching Design for Backbone Teachers in Private Universities in Shanghai (in cooperation with the University of Helsinki)

2022, three of our young teachers, Shen Dini, Miao Shan and He Yumei, participated in the second phase of the Teacher Training Self-Help Program organized by the Shanghai Civilian-run College Teacher Professional Development Center. This program is an advanced training program for key teachers in private universities in Shanghai to enhance their capacity in blended instructional design (in collaboration with the University of Helsinki, Finland), conducted at the Shanghai Education International Exchange Centre, with the first phase lasting three months, from September to December, 2022, and the second phase will be conducted in 2023.

The project is aimed at continuously improving the capacity of teachers in private universities to design blended learning and teaching in the post-epidemic era and strengthening the support for teaching quality in the context of regular epidemic prevention and control, and in collaboration with the University of Helsinki, Finland. The project provides online training in English on the theme "How to design blended learning". The training is divided into "Understanding key concepts in teaching and learning", "Gaining skills to design blended learning", "Understanding IT tools and digital skills", "Implementing The training is divided into five modules: "Understanding Key Concepts in Teaching and Learning", "Acquiring Skills to Design Blended Learning", "Understanding IT Tools and Digital Skills", "Implementing Instructional Design for Different Subjects" and "Assessing Students' Learning Performance", and is conducted in the form of expert lectures, group discussions and interactive seminars. The course is designed to enable teachers in private universities to make full use of digital technology, master the basic concepts of blended teaching design and continuously improve their blended teaching skills.

A total of 50 young teachers from different private universities in Shanghai participated in the program. Three of our teachers actively participated in the program, discussing with teachers from different universities about the development of blended teaching and its future development; listening to the experience sharing and guidance of senior mentors from different universities, completing case studies and discussions, and receiving a training certificate issued by the University of Helsinki, Finland in the first phase. This reflects the enthusiastic, energetic and positive attitude of our young teachers towards teaching development and personal capacity enhancement.
